Ayurvedic Diet – Customised diet plan for your body prakriti[nature] to remain healthy

Role of diet in Ayurveda

  • In Ayurveda, food is called “Maha Bhaisajya” which means “the superior medicine”. One can maintain health and prevent diseases for a long time if he/she eats the
right foods according to the seasons and cycles of nature.
  • Ahara (diet) should be chosen according to the constitution of every individual.
  • Food habits that are beneficial to body and mind are pathya and food that is harmful or produces disease is apathya.
  • Food equally affects mind as much as the body. On that basis, it’s classified as satvik food (ideal diet), rajasik fook and tamasik food.
  • Ayurveda has mentioned 8 factors that must be considered before baking the food. They include the prakrti (quality), karana (processing), samyoga (combination), rashi (quantity), desha (place where it is cultivated), kala (time), etc.
  • A unique concept of antagonist foods that is virudha ahara has been explained. It refers to the combination of certain foods that interrupt the metabolism in the body.
  • Consuming such an incompatible diet may cause various systemic disorders, that include, skin diseases, ascites, gastritis, etc.
  • Pathya is the one which keeps the person healthy and everyone should refrain from apathy. Each disease has its own pathya-apathya mentioned separately. It has to be taken seriously in everyday life as a routine.
  • Consultations on diet counselling based on your prakrithi[body constitution], disease condition etc is needed to prevent diseases.
